Hawaii Pacific University has announced it will name Amy Nguyen-Chyung as its next dean of its College of Business starting July 2025.
She will be a consultant at HPU before taking up the post in July 2025.
Nguyen-Chyung taught at elite universities, including the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, and The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Hawaii Pacific University has appointed Amy Nguyen-Chyung as the new dean of its College of Business. The appointment will take effect in July 2025, and she will act as a consultant to the university until then. This announcement came on December 26, 2024, marking another important development in the on-going efforts of Hawaii Pacific University to strengthen its academic leadership.
Nguyen-Chyung possesses extensive expertise in education, finance, and innovation. Her distinguished academic career includes serving as an assistant professor of strategy at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, as well as teaching at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, and The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, she held the position of faculty co-director at the Institute for the Global Entrepreneur at the University of California, San Diego.
Nguyen-Chyung said in her statement that it was thrilling to be able to help contribute to the growth of HPU: “It is an honor to have selected me as the new dean of the Hawaii Pacific University College of Business. The leadership at HPU is making transformative strides, and I look forward to helping position the College of Business for the future by fostering innovative connections across HPU’s diverse programs.”
As dean, Nguyen-Chyung will focus on enhancing entrepreneurial thinking, business and international partnerships, and experiential learning opportunities for the students. She will help play a leadership role for advancing HPU’s mission for preparing students for success in a rapidly changing global economy.
According to HPU President John Gotanda, “Her experience in entrepreneurship and program development will prove highly beneficial to our students and community. Her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment towards academic excellence will resonate at HPU’s mission as the students are prepared with challenges for the global economy. Nguyen-Chyung shall be joining HPU at an academic level to drive higher academics as well as in its establishment in higher education.
