At the 13th annual Celebrating Women in Business Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 2, nearly 200 women gathered at the Spearfish Holiday Inn Convention Center to recognize talented businesswomen. The SD CEO West Women’s Business Center hosted the event, which honored the accomplishments of four award winners and nine finalists. Elizabeth Freer, director of SD CEO West, commended the candidates for their perseverance, commitment, and hard work. “These women make a significant contribution to our local and state economies through their businesses, organizations, and communities,” the speaker stated.

Owner of Rushmore Athletics, Jenna Farrar, received the Outstanding Women’s Choice Award. In May 2019, Jenna founded Rushmore Athletics. Currently, the gym employs 17 people and serves over 500 athletes, both competitive and recreational. BHSU alumna Kelsey Stine, Vela Creative Co. & Accessible Black Hills, Rapid City, is an exemplary entrepreneur. Together with the BHSU Foundation, this inaugural award was developed to honor a remarkable woman who personifies leadership, community involvement, and business.
Along with Molly Brown from GenPro Energy Development and Kayla Klein from Klein Visioneering Group, the event featured keynote speakers who discussed their experiences as intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs. With the provision of tools, workshops, online training courses, instructive lectures, and networking opportunities, SD CEO West is still committed to empowering women and entrepreneurship throughout the state of South Dakota.
