Tru Self Inc. Launches Pilot Program to Enhance Substance Abuse Recovery with Innovative SaaS Platform

Highlights:

Tru Self Inc., founded by Laken Amberg, aims to improve recovery rates for individuals battling substance abuse through a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform.

The platform streamlines communication between patients, caseworkers, and support groups, offering resources such as treatment plans, community boards, and gamified incentives.

Key Background:

Laken Amberg, the founder and CEO of Tru Self Inc., is on a mission to improve recovery rates for individuals affected by substance use disorders. With a personal background rooted in recovery, Amberg, now 34, founded Tru Self in 2021 to address critical gaps in the current treatment systems for addiction.

Amberg, originally from Alaska, moved to Louisville seeking better social and professional opportunities after experiencing firsthand the devastating impact of substance abuse in her community. Her decision to start Tru Self was driven by the alarming statistics related to relapse rates: approximately 85% of individuals relapse within a year of treatment, with 66% returning to substance use shortly after beginning treatment, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Tru Self Inc. offers a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform designed to bridge these gaps by facilitating ongoing communication and support between patients, caseworkers, and recovery specialists. The platform allows caseworkers to share treatment plans with patients, who can contribute feedback directly through the app. Additionally, it reduces administrative burdens by streamlining access to electronic medical records, making it easier for professionals to track patient progress.

A key feature of the platform is its inclusion of community support boards and peer groups, offering patients a sense of connection and accountability. Tru Self is also integrating gamification elements to incentivize patients to engage with their recovery process.

Amberg’s dedication to improving substance abuse recovery is personal, having been in recovery herself for over 12 years. She believes Tru Self can provide the necessary tools and resources that were previously unavailable in the space. In January 2025, Tru Self Inc. will kick off a 30-day pilot program in partnership with South Louisville Community Ministries and ChooseWell Communities in Germantown. The company is also seeking to raise $1 million in pre-seed funding to expand its team and refine its technology. As Tru Self looks to scale, Amberg envisions reaching 1,000 patients and securing professional licenses for medical providers, aiming for nearly $2 million in annual recurring revenue within two years.
