Amy Yang of South Korea won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, her maiden major championship.
The 34-year-old led by two strokes heading into the final round at Seattle’s Sahalee Country Club, and he was seven shots ahead after 15 holes. Despite bogeys at the 16th and 17th, she finished on seven under, three shots ahead of compatriot Jin Young Ko, American Lilia Vu, and Japan’s Miyu Yamashita.
Yang was playing in her 75th major, the longest wait for a maiden win since Angela Stanford won her 76th at the 2018 Evian.
“I’m at a loss for words right now,” said Yang, the runner-up at the US Women’s Open in 2012 and 2015. “I started doubting myself if I would ever win a major before I retire, and I’m really grateful and very, very thrilled to have won one.
“All four rounds were difficult, but I just trusted my preparation and gave it my all throughout the week.” Yang had a solid start to her final round, with a birdie at the first and two more before the turn. Despite bogeying the 10th, birdies on the 11th and 13th helped her pull away.
England’s Charley Hull tied for 16th after a final 74, while Ireland’s Leona Maguire finished 24th following rounds of 75 and 76 over the weekend.
